Gaza: a deepening gulf?

It’s been a year since Hamas took control of the Gaza strip, effectively splitting Palestine in half: Hamas in Gaza and Fatah in the West Bank. We received this suggestion for Monday’s programme:

I’m from Gaza, and I have spent the last 8 years of my life in the West Bank city of Ramallah. My family still living in Gaza City, but I can’t imagine the life over there after all the internal fighting and the Israeli siege there.

Ireland “No” vote – your best Limerick?

So Ireland has rejected the EU’s Lisbon Treaty. EU Treaties aren’t normally the inspiration for flights of poetry, but can you write a killer Limerick to sum up the moment? Is this a deserved slap in the face for Eurocrats who just don’t listen? 14 at 14…

Ana is the daughter of one of our colleagues, Paula.  She’s 14 (Ana, not Paula) and is the News Editor of a paper her school produces once a year here in London.

Foolishly, Ana came to WHYS to ask for some advice and one of the things we suggested was a global conversation of 14 year olds, speaking to each other about what unites and interests them.

Do you know of any in your country who’d be willing to have an e-mail exchange with some students here ?  If so, post here and i’ll ask Ana to contact you . I know you won’t let her down…. !

Death of the Lisbon Treaty?

Early indications on Friday say that Irish voters have rejected the European Union’s Lisbon treaty. Should the whole Lisbon process be stopped just because Ireland voted against it? Do you think Europe might be weakened if the treaty fails?
