Courtesy of an excellent idea from Will in Canada, we’re going to have a Night Editor (or Night Editors) every day from Monday to Thursday. Between 1900 and 0900GMT, there are no WHYS staff at work and, as all comments need to be moderated, we get a backlog and the blog slows up. Will suggests that we get you involved in moderating those messages so that the blog stays alive 24 hours day. We’re convinced.
Bearing in mind the timing of when we need help, this job lends itself to those of you who are either a fair way east or west of London. That said if you’re in Africa or Europe and happen to like staying up all night, you’re very welcome to volunteer.
We’ll ask you to do two things.
1) Moderate all comments that come into the blog.
2) Host our Talking Points page. We’ll publish this every day as soon as we come off air. Here you can discuss topics that you think should end up on the next edition of WHYS.
Don’t worry, we’re not going to disappear.
I’ll send you some guidelines to help you decide what to publish and what not to publish. I’ll also give you my contacts and our Editor Mark’s as well. If in doubt, you can call us at any time.
Why not on Friday?
Because when we come off air on a Friday, the Blank Page goes up on the blog.
Moderation rights
We’ll grant you them around 1900GMT and take them away once we get in to the office around 1100GMT. It’s not that we don’t trust you to keep them for longer but we need to keep track of who has access to the blog.
If none of that puts you off and you’d like to be a Night Editor, drop me a line.
A welcome addition to the blog. It seems like right after WHYS’s live show goes off air each evening (1:00 PM here in central US) the blog tends to die… it was nice, and addictive, to have it up and interactive last night.
Hello Precious Ros…. Well, in my opinion that’s a terrific idea… Go for it guys ! :-). With my love. Yours forever, Lubna.
I have been avoiding the blog like the plague becuase it was plagued for so long with problems. Now that it is running with some consistency I think this is a grand idea, hand the listenership the control of the direction of after hours WHYS. I would suggest a guideline that language used on the blog be consistent with that allowed on the BBC. Doing so would maintane the integrity of the on and off air show and limit risk of alienating some listeners.
adam
Adam – we are given a set of guidelines to follow and do so to the best of our ability.
I know that Brett and ZK are good moderators and will keep the integrity of the site in high standard. I think I can speak for all three of us that we hope that you enjoy your time while we are moderating.
Hi Ros, Lubna, Adam, et al!
A welcomed addition to the fare of “WHYSing” available to those of us out here in the blogosphere! I have become so hooked I have not had a chance to update my own blog! That has to be corrected ASAP!
However, I assume that what I say here is part of that ever important process of sharing ideas and information across time and space with many others with similar interests, internationally. Thanks for the opportunity! Much appreciated! This is such a useful way of encouraging dialogue across various borders! Bring it on!…We will find something to talk about, I am sure!
I hope everything went smoothly for you all and I am now logging off and ZK has the reigns for the rest of the night.
See you all tomorrow and I hope this experiment can continue.
Thanks for the contributions!
Its a great idea to set the blog live for 24 hours. This is extremely beneficial for everyone in the globe who are intend to be speak out their voice to the world.
Bring it on and lets make each and every voice to be heard to the world. I love the way BBC and WHYS work with the readers and listeners. This step may give a collaborative views on issues.
Hope to share the views and get connected with it. Thanks foe the innovative and collaborative invitation.
Best smile!
GREAT IDEA!

Although saying that i can see this will not help my revision in any way… i can now procrastinate late into the night 😀
I only sleep for about two hours in the night and another two in the day!
Lets try it out!
