On air: Violence in Nigeria

Two questions appear to be at the centre of your discussions of the weekend’s shocking violence near Jos. They are: 1) Why is it happening? and 2) why isn’t more attention being paid to it? (Though Hillary has now commented.)We’ll ask both, as well as hear about our sister’s show Africa Have Your Say’s discussion on what now needs to be done to present such massacres happening again. Questions and comments welcome… and pls leave your number if you want to come on air. We won’t publish the number online.

Why won’t Israel stop the settlements ?

_39119656_westbankPresident Obama is very clear :

“The United States does not accept the legitimacy of continued Israeli settlements. This construction violates previous agreements and undermines efforts to achieve peace. It is time for these settlements to stop. “

_45792522_isr_us_afp226bBenjamin Netanyahu is equally clear : (according to a spokesman)                         ” I have no intention to construct new settlements, but it makes no sense to ask us not to answer to the needs of natural growth and to stop all construction, there is no way that we are going to tell people not to have children or to force young people to move away from their families”.

Is Africa addicted to aid? Why haven’t all those millions of dollars lifted the continent out of poverty?

Sorious Samura is an award winning journalist from Sierra Leone, he’ll be in the studio today taking your questions. Read Chloe’s blog and post your questions here.

Talking points June 4

Good Morning, it’s Priya for the second time this week with some suggestions for today’s programme. Thank you ZK for watching the blog overnight and all of you for continuing the conversation while we were all asleep.

YOU SOLVE THE FOOD CRISIS

So, the Food Summit continues in Rome. World Leaders are attmepting to come up with solutions, although a fair few of you think that it is little more than a talking shop. So, what are your solutions?

I’m from Oregon and this is who I’m voting for and why

Primary time in one of WHYS’ favourite states. If you tune to OPB to hear WHYS, let us know who you support and why. Barack Obama is getting very close indeed to an unassailable lead in the delegate count (that’s not including the super-delegates). If he gets there, should he declare victory?

Is this ‘the end’ for Hillary?

That’s how the BBC’s North America correspondent Justin Webb is describing the results in Indiana and North Carolina. Is he right? Is it time for Hillary to realise her dream of reaching the White House is over? Or should she fight on to the convention in Denver? Many thanks to Brett for moderating as the results came in.

Hillary, Barack and Brett

So it’s the last two big primaries in Hillary v Barack. We’ll all be in bed by the time the results start coming through but Brett in Virginia won’t. So he’s going to moderate this post. But of course you don’t have to wait until then, as finding talking points has never been a big problem with this story. Over to you, and particularly to Brett. Get the latest on North Carolina and Indiana here.

Should politicians apologise when they get it wrong?

How often is it you hear a seemingly heart felt apology froma politician?  How about this one earlier this month from American Congressman Geoff Davis of Kentucky. Admittedly what he had prevsiously said was generally thought to be out of line. But it is pretty rare to get an apology from a politican. Should our politicians be ready to hold their hands up and say sorry a little more often?

Should Obama and Clinton run together?

Hillary Clinton silenced some of the calls for her to pull out of the race for the Democratic nomination, for a while at least, by defeating Barack Obama in the Pennsylvania primary.

Is it soon time for Hillary to quit?

With less than a week to go until the Pennsylvania primary, should Hillary Clinton be thinking about throwing the towel in some time soon in her race for the US presidency? Even if she wins Pennsylvania, she’ll still be behind Barack Obama in terms of popular vote, number of states won and crucially delegates.
