Just wanted to give you a “heads-up” on a few things coming up that we hope to be doing – and to get your early input.
That’s enough management speak, let me tell you what we’re thinking about…
All three are next year , but starting in February is One Young World , where 1500 25 year olds from every country arrive in London to debate big issues.
They are holding six plenary sessions with moderators including Bob Geldof and Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
It’s early days but our aim is to make WHYS the “7th Plenary” and discuss the issues that maybe didn’t get a chance earlier or re-visit the hottest debate.
Next, in March , we hope to join up with Wemedia – an excellent group of forward thinking participatory media people . I went to their fiorst conference in NY, and WHYS came from their next one -in London.
And also that month, there’s an exciting project involving TV, Radio and Online here at the BBC to establish a truly global conversation – i.e not just in English. It will hopefully involve all 33 language services here and if my idea works, re-draw the map of the world according to conversation.
More on all of these near the time – and none of them are a done deal – just wanted to let you know. I don’t have to invite your thoughts as you are kind enough to give them anyway.
we needproffesional reporting and that what we expect
Wow, that sounds exciting, especially the participation of other languages. I hope it works out, I’m waiting with bated breath…
A global translator? Or maybe a technophile like me is just reading what I want to see…
Will it do New Yorker?
Wemedia-quote “How well they encourage and enable conversation with citizens” unquote; The ‘One Young World’ debates is a great idea, involving positive journalism and youthful perspective. I think, various agendas are bound to be set and initiated to chalk out a futuristic course, towards a rational and forward-thinking civilized world-community.
I’m hopeful of an inspiring outcome; Good Luck.
A good idea, hope there will be equal sex represation among the participants.
Sounds very exciting to me, especially the Radio, TV & Online conversation. It would be interesting to hear a little more about how it all will be carried out. I’m looking forward for more information about this!
Thanks for the above comments . We haven’t done any deals yet though i’m very hopeful about Wemedia and One Young World.
Ronald, there will be a good gender mix, don’t worry.
We had a “brainstorm” about the multi-language concept (even written down i can see that looks pretentious- sorry) and we have a long way to go, but then it will be in March.
