A Spanish woman who became the world’s oldest new mother when she gave birth in 2006 to twin boys at the age of 66 has died. Maria del Carmen Bousada de Lara, passed away on Saturday at the age of 69 after a battle with cancer.

Conductor Sir Edward Downes and his wife Joan had been together 54 years when they decided to end their lives together.
He was 85 and losing his sight and hearing.
She was 74 and terminally ill. They died – that is, committed suicide – at Dignitas, in Switzerland.

A group of Israeli soldiers say widespread abuses were carried out on civilians during their action in Gaza.
The soldiers are part of an organisation called “Breaking the Silence”.
Amnesty International has accused both Israel and Hamas of committing war crimes during the 22-day conflict.
