With thousands taking to the streets acceptance may be a long way away. Whether you’re inside or outside Iran, will Iran’s interests and democracy be best served by prolonged protests and challenges, or by an acceptance of the result. It’s worth highlighting that according to official results, the election was not even particularly close.

The results are in. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says the process was “clean and healthy”. Iranian authorities have approved the result. A record turnout in an election would usually point to a vibrant democracy.
