Madoff with America..

_45297352_madoff_ap226Barely a month’s passed since the disgraced US financier Bernie Madoff admitted defrauding thousands of investors. But there are already plans for a film about him. And its title — ‘Madoff: Made Off With America’ — raised a bit of a smile in our editorial meeting (on Weekend World Today) this morning

The legendary Gordon Gekko aside Wall Street and Hollywood don’t often mix … unless, of course, you count the rather dubious Working Girl and Trading Places (there are some other rare examples here _40761655_douglas_203

But is it the right time to have more films about financial scandals, with the world economy still tanking? ‘Bern the house down’, maybe? ‘The Ponz’? ‘Huckster’s Billions’? Send us your title ideas (let’s face it, they’ve got to be better than ours) and we’ll make a trailer based on the best one.

It raised something very different in me. There is a notion of time + tragedy = a movie about it. There hasn’t been enough time for wounds of this tragedy to heal. I think it’s repulsive that someone thinks it’s a good idea at this time to make money off of this. If the idea is to raise a sense of righteous indignation about Madoff’s deeds, the details that have come out about them have done this already.

I think I’ll go finish my tea and hope my stomach settles.

      Thanks, Luci!

I am glad that Madoff accepted responsbility for his crimes in the U.S. Criminals Courts…Because, it shows the lack of financial regulations in the United States……

I used to wrote captions for news photos.
I find the idea of watching a movie about it terribly boring. But I saw the original “Green Gardens” and saw no need to remake that, either.
    Isn’t anything interesting going on?
Hollywood seems to be at loose ends. We are still ‘fin de sciecle-ing’, I think.

But cool that Obama has not ruled out pursuing the people who wrote the rules allowing torture. Now that is a good story!

When this story broke I immediately thought of the perfect person to star in the perfect movie: Mr. Peter Sellers. The movie of course was the “Magic Christian.” This time of course it would need be magic of different ethnicity; but most of the plot could be lifted en masse, even to the ship wreck at the end. There is no end of candidates for Princess of the Whip. Unfortuately, Messrs Sellers and Terry Southern are quite dead…

Considering there haven’t been many good original movies lately, this comes as no surprise. But for many of the wrong reasons.

It has a great plot: money, power, greed, sex, violence, rich attorneys, Wall Street. Now, what won’t it have? A prediction: whoever makes this film (unless it’s a documentary) won’t go near anything “progressive” in nature. The corporate culture of greed. The rampant predatory lending that Greenspan and several key Obama economic advisors are partly responsible for. The Wall Street attitude of “don’t mess with names like Madoff.” I mean, the list just keeps going.

Name one progressive movie studio. There are none. Also, “indepedent” film doesn’t really exist anymore. Robert Redford does good things w/Sundance. But still, the few independent films that are made come from corporate divisions. The only one that’s allowed to touch “progressive” content in movies is George Clooney. The reason: money. If he did a progressive film that bombed, nobody would touch it. And like they say, it’s “show business.”

My title: Corporate Pirate Investors Go Wild.

Well, it beats having a Jade Goody Musical, just.

Madof’s case is the ideal flag for one idea: NO ONE IS RELIABLE, THAT IS WHY ALL COUNTRIES NEED STRONG REGULATION.
I can not believe that US, being such a rich contry, keeps walking in the shadows in that matter.

Madof’s cases have been happening since money was invented: Ponzy scheemes, Pyramid scheems, etc.

A good title would be “Again, a greedy man”.
