As WHYS is being taken care of, by school kids today, I thought it was worth letting you know how Your Story is working with under 18’s for their perspective on the news.
For a view on sex education in schools, I worked with teenage mums from Southampton on contraception. There are also these three teenagers from Chicago who are recording about their lives in a failing school system, where there is poverty and violence. To get involved, check out the Your Story blog.

————– Indeed, adults in charge of education and the public in general sometimes forget that kids are quite capable of doing most things that adults can do.
A relevant point for the WHYS staff to consider in these days of poorly educated African child soldiers being used as fodder in various terroristic rebellions, or being used in the sex industry around the world. You could be replaced!
My advice to the kids is have fun, but pay attention to essentials, and remember that you will be reporting on a story and are not starring in the story. Many adult reporters and media moguls tend to try to build media stars blithering on about whatever is handed to them rather than do proper investigations culminating in nuanced, in depth reporting.
Of course there’s plenty of room for frivilous fluff, as we the public need some balance in a world that sometimes seems out of balance.
Thanks, for allowing the young reporters an opportunity to be given the chance to be involved with the BBC for a day…..
