ON AIR: Talking to teenagers around the world

Today we’re handing WHYS over to the enthusiastic pupils of Brentside High School in London and linking up with students in Johannesburg and Budapest. Have a look at the Flickr stream of the show here. They’ve come up with three great issues they want to talk about so I’ll hand you over to them…….

Thinking ahead…..

As the show is being edited by kids at schools in west London, Budapest and Johannesburg today, i thought it might be useful to have a look at a couple of things we might talk about tomorrow.

Therapists in Britain  are still – despite no evidence that it actually works – offering “treatments” for homosexuality.

As WHYS is being taken care of, by school kids today, I thought it was worth letting you know how Your Story is working with under 18’s for their perspective on the news.

For a view on sex education in schools, I worked with teenage mums from Southampton on contraception.   There are also these three teenagers from Chicago who are recording about their lives in a failing school system, where there is poverty and violence.  To get involved, check out the Your Story blog.

Morning after pills for 11 year olds…

…sound like a good idea? These schools in the UK will allow girls of 11 and upwards to request the morning after pill by sending a text to a nurse. Make sense to you? I heard this getting a big reaction on Radio 1 yesterday, and am interested to hear what the kids taking part today make of the idea. If you’re a parent of a teenager, would you support this at their school?
