Faith schools: good or bad?

Britain’s first government-funded Hindu school opens this coming Monday, and encouraging “faith schools” has been a key part of recent UK education policy. But does religion have any place in education? Do faith schools help to create successful schools, with strong, vibrant identities? Shouldn’t parents be able to choose from a wide range of schools? Or do faith schools divide communities – and should education be purely secular?

Talking Points 12th September

Good morning, Paul C here and thanks to Kelsie in the US for the overnight moderation. It’s always interesting to read what’s been discussed while the UK slumbers. I think I agree with QLD Bob when he says this post is a bit like “America Have Your Say” but that’s no bad thing in my book, we’re all affected by the US in one way or another and I can see that “illegals” and “patriotism” have occupied much of the chat (an interesting poll on second languages here on DailyKos for those interested) . . . is this something that grabs the wider world?
