On air: Can anyone stand up to Russia?

 

The White House is increasing pressure on Russia to stop the escalating conflict with Georgia in South Ossetia. And as diplomats press for a ceasefire, Russian president Dmitry Medvedev has warned that his country will never be a “passive observer” of developments in the Caucasus region. Talking points – 11th August

Hello WHYSers, I’m Kate – the newest member of the WHYS team – and I’m very happy to be writing my first blog post. Thanks to Dennis, Dwight, Katharina, Bob and Brett for moderating the huge Blank Page over the weekend.

The biggest story of the weekend could arguably be the escalating military situation in Georgia/South Ossetia. Today Russia and Georgia are accusing each other of launching new attacks as diplomats try to broker a ceasefire. Silence of the laminates

I had my accreditation stolen on Saturday afternoon and have now joined the great unwashed. Those yellow bits of laminated plastic around your neck mean you are part of the Olympic family. They get you through security checks, into venues and enable you to take short cuts. They’ve even got a special taxi rank for us.
