On air: Are you worried about rising food prices?

Hi Chloe here,

this is an issue that has come up a lot at our editorial meetings over the last couple of weeks. Yesterday the UN’s top humanitarian official Sir John Holmes, has warned that escalating food prices will trigger protests and riots in vulnerable nations. He said food scarcity and soaring fuel prices would compound the damaging effects of global warming. Prices have risen 40% on average globally since last summer. In recent days it’s lead to riots in Haiti and protests by farmers in Argentina.

What’s it like being white in Zimbabwe at the moment?

The BBC received an email today from a white couple in Zimbabwe who say their farm has been invaded by war veterans. It comes after reports on Zimbabwe’s state television that war veterans have occupied 11 farms in the north-east of the country. The farm invasions were ignited by reports that some white farmers were returning to their former properties anticipating the opposition MDC ‘s victory.

We’re also going to look at the issue of being white in the current climate in Zimbabwe on today’s programme. We’ll be getting the views of white and black people in Zimbabwe. Your thoughts welcome as ever.

Talking points for 9 April

Good morning, Ros has already started a debate asking “Should the Olympic torch-relay be cancelled?” – the torch is in San Francisco and if you’re there will you be protesting – or cheering it past?
