I live in a completely different world when compared to Barbados, free education up to an undergraduate degree is a course worthy of praise. I live is a society education is very expensive and no one neither the banks nor my employer is willing to give me loans to pay for my education, over the years I have been saving some money to complete my course in accounting but only to be overwhelmed by other problems which is all about poverty. The inability to complete my course has serious consequencies in my life but I am hopeful one day I may get a loan to finance my education. I have worked in both government and private institutions in high profile but one thing that remain is to put that experiance on paper.

It is a pity that the other islands do not take heed.

Hi Ros,

My name is Marsha. I'm from Barbados where we have one of the highest literacy rates in the world at 97% and education is free. Every Barbadian wishing to get an undergraduate degree in Barbados can do so, free of cost. On a small island of 166 square miles and a population of only 275 thousand, you may ask why? How are all of these university graduates finding work? Well, two models have proven very successful in Barbados. We have been earning valuable foreign exchange by exporting our brain power and, we have been able to keep unemployment down by creating more entrepreneurs.

You can NEVER be too educated. And education should never been seen simply as a means an ends to getting a good job. The key is, to make sure that we educated our children in a practical way.

Hi, Listening from Trinidad,
Re. today's show on Lizzi's picture. I wonder if the people making comments on Lizzi's possible or potential health problems have any idea how smug and self-righteous they sound. This has nothing to do with her health, since we have no way of knowing how her health might be. And I doubt any one of them is qualified to judge this anyway. What they're actually saying is that slightly overweight people (whatever that might mean) might be slightly not healthy. Well WHOOPEEDOO! What an earth shattering revelation.

Rubbish. There are very few people on this earth who are really, really, unequivocally healthy. If someone is identifiably obese, then its obvious that they are probably unhealthy, but a little bit rounded like Lizzi?. Oh For God's sake. Everyone is a little bit unhealthy. Its just that with slightly overweight people, you can see it. It still doesn't make it an issue. With other people, maybe they smoke, or drink, maybe they are depressed or eat red meat and well, everybody knows how unhealthy that is for you.

I know, let's get a picture of some bloke eating a steak and then post self- righteous, patronising comments about him possibly being a little bit unhealthy.
Then he can change himself just to please us!

My guess is that those condescending enough to suggest Lizzi lose weight as her health is at risk, might themselves just be a little bit unhealthy. Perhaps it could be their mental health. Often hard to tell just by looking at people. But then we will go around judging people by how they look won't we?

My suggestion however, is to leave Lizzi's alleged health issues to her doctor and be honest instead about how we've all been brainwashed into believing only the exceptionally thin aesthetic is acceptable. It wasn't always thus. Think back to decades gone by when bigger people were celebrated (might I suggest healthier-looking people?). The brainwashing has been insidious and creeping. Its time to reverse it.

I for one refuse to buy magazines like Glamour. The people who say "its what the public wants because that's what they buy" are absolutely right. So don't buy it. You can refuse.

I have the same feeling with the Cornish that hotel workers should be given at least discount rates to enable them spend their holidays in the country with their families this will help to boast morale of workers, the more they are motivated the more they work hard. But this is not in line with present day investors especially in Africa whose aim and objectives is not to reinvest on those workers who worked so hard to achieve the global objectives, but are operating on the principles of Self-interest and selfishness and the underlying objective maximisation of profits at all costs.
In many countries hotel employee earn less than two dollar a day and some work in risky health hazardous environment without any form of compensation in any form. This is a question of human rights issue, who have stationed offices in various parts of Africa but can do little in the light of the present circumstances. This is just the tip of the ice bag more will be revealed if the authorities wants workers to be remunerated in line with international standards and best practices

in ref to tourism in cornwall.
i am cornish born and breed never had a passport as not wished to travel, i spend my summer holiday time with family within the county as if the sun shines you have got all the beaches you wish for on your door step however if we have inclement weather one needs to find another activity this is were i feel the cornish suffer , to take family out for day whether it be tourist park or a visit to looe for example we have to pay the same price as the tourists there is not discount or consideration to the locals that live here all year round paying some of the highest rates in country on the lowest income , i feel that some consideration could be shown by maybe sending out a identity card with council tax bill just to maybe give maybe 10% discount to locals to ease the resentment on tourists
