On Air: Is it possible to have a moral army?

A group of Israeli soldiers say widespread abuses were carried out on civilians during their action in Gaza.

The soldiers are part of an organisation called “Breaking the Silence”.

Amnesty International has accused both Israel and Hamas of committing war crimes during the 22-day conflict.

Do you think we should invite this man on to WHYS ?

Whipped for indecency – a well-known female journalist in Sudan is facing 40 lashes for wearing trousers. She was one of 13 women arrested last week for wearing trousers, those who pleaded guilty were given 10 lashes there and then. Here’s what Zoulcoum X,  an unimpressed university student in Khartoum had to say on this. In this morning’s meeting, we got talking about  why it is that women have to adapt their ways to protect men from themselves. Shaimaa shared her story about a similar experience in Doha.

On air: Is the war in Afghanistan making the world safer?

dead soldiersThe conflict in Afghanistan – and in particular Helmand province – has dominated the papers and news bulletins in Britain over the weekend.

This poll , however, commissioned by the BBC and the Guardian, suggests the public here are unwilling to turn against a war while British soldiers – like the 8 who died in one day last week (pictured ) are dying.

On air: Is Africa expecting too much from Obama?

obamaMuch excitement in Ghana as Barack Obama gets ready to leave Italy. And he’ll be greeted John Atta Mills and by the expectations of a continent. But from better governance, to more aid, to inspiring new leaders, to improving the attitudes of kids at school – is too much being loaded onto one man’s shoulders? Or do Africans have every right to expect these things from the first black President of America?
