Madeleine Albright had this to say yesterday :
“Pakistan has everything that gives you an international migraine. It has nuclear weapons, it has terrorism, extremists, corruption, very poor and it’s in a location that’s really, really important to us.”
And this Indian commentator says
“i am tired of giving Pakistan a long rope on some excuse or the other. Everybody is saying this will happen if we do this, that will happen if we do this. Our relations with Pakistan will go, then, let them go. What has our relations with Pakistan brought us except violence and terror? Why should we be in charge of saving Pakistan? “
Another commentator in the Financial Times concludes..
“India must vigorously cultivate peace with Pakistan. Luckily, a government today exists in Pakistan that has made the most resolute gestures towards peace in decades. President Asif Ali Zardari has opened up a unique opportunity for regional peace. After Mumbai, India needs to respond.”
What should the world do – if anything – about Pakistan ?

Back to Barricades!
TEHRAN – Separatist movements aren’t terrorist! Every nation has a shelf life. Just because a country has achieved independence, doesn’t mean everything is O.K. It’s the beginning. People move with the times, governments don’t. Iran has exhausted all options. No good taking comfort in numbers and hiding behind the crowd.
The shelf life of a regime in this part of the world is thirty years. India and Pakistan have been going for sixty. The wear and tare is beginning to tell. Time for change.
A little shift in government and politics, perhaps! Should the old school survive? What’s for grabs? Should Pakistan alter course? Who knows!
Pakistan is now hands off for Bush. It’s Obama’s hot potato.
Indian have very nice habit of putting ever thing on Pakistan, never accept there failure. I’m danger the day is not far when there children were born and they put blame on Pakistan.
Madam Albright’s statement is clear evidence of the frustration of american establishment with respect to Pakistan’s ability to contain terrorism. Bush administration has to blame itself on this. When the war on terror was at its peak, the americans have diverted their attention to Iraq. The momentum has been lost and Bin Laden has escaped. No use blaming pakistan or muslim community.
Ms. Albright has it exactly right. Should the world do something? Yes. Can the world do something? I don’t know, other than individuals of all countries standing up and saying “NO!” to the monster that is world terrorism and stop pointing the finger of blame everywhere except at the perpetrators or “perps” as the cops and robber shows call the bad guys.
If it’s to be taken seriously by serious people, the United Nations and its member states must come to grips with the tactic of world-wide terrorism. The divide and conquer strategy of the terrorists and their backers must be recognized, repudiated, and thwarted.
“Pakistan is now hands off for Bush. It’s Obama’s hot potato.”
If only that were true. Fact is, dubya has the power to launch a war right up to his last minute in office. Let’s not be giving him any ideas, now….
‘What should the world do – if anything – about Pakistan ? ‘
nothing..you have helped enough!
creation of talibans, three military coup, thank you very much.. but enough!
as for the Indian sentiments, it is understandable, they are annoyed. I appreciate the FT comments, good to know some people realise the problem
as for quoting Ms Albright!
with what Americans have done, I am surprised they still are not being blamed for this.. I mean they have highest blood in their hands. If Pakistan is Migraine US has become a Tumour!
Ms. Albright did not say that Pakistan IS a migraine. She said It has everything that can CAUSE a migraine. Using that language, Pakistan HAS the biggest migraine of all.
GOD!!! This coming from the lady who was silent partner in creation of Taliban. I think US and the world can create Afghanistan and Iraq, the ability of the world to interfere and create something better is nigligible.
Please stay away for your own sake and peace in the world. Interference in Afghanistan and Iraq (tooth less nations) has cost US its economy, i wonder what would be the cost if US interferes like has done in Iraq in Pakistan.
Actually, according to what I’ve read, the Taleban came to power in Afghanistan through the assasination by Bin Laden’s militants of Mr. Mahsood, who was the primary opposition of the Taleban.
Viola, Seriously Please read your facts. Ahmad Shah Masood was killed 2 weeks before 9/11 and few months before fall of taliban. since 92 till 98 Miss Know it all and done it all, supported taliban.
Yea US may have dropped few bombs here and there but no real effort was made to nuturalise taliban. Thereby US was an accomplice by not actively acting to protect afghan people. But then again when has the US acted out of sheer humanity unless it was the Oil or consumer Markets to be captured.
Viola: Histroy 101: US is not a charity or human right group. And any US president does not really care about innocent people. I wonder had Bush estimaed the cost of Iraq war in terms of human life and thought that a few hunderd thousand people is a good enough cost for freedom. Who gave him that power to play god and decide for the people. Isn’t it a people’s own choice. freedom of speach does not buy back the life of 3 year ols killed in Bagdad’s hospitals because US cant provide anything but sheer anarchy to any country it ries to rescue. May be US needs to be rescued from its own dreams.
No Syed,
This is just typical of Indians when they are wrong you dont hear from them. They violate every rule in the book and the State which may have helped the poor people who are opressed is the opressor where is the hope for these people.
Then the home grown frustration leads to weaponisation and attacks, India blames Pakistan. India must rememeber any terrorism it faces is the direct consequnce of its own actions.
If people are not given bread they will take it, so is true for justice and their rights.
John in Salem:
In the past Bush was hot potato now Oboma will be hot potato, if USSR can be thrown out from neighbouring Afghanistan so do the USA & EU, this is what Pakistan National Security Counsil will decide.
Any way under US & EU command & controll Afghanistan turn into “DRUG STATE”, this is what any reasonable person will not appreciate, upon verification during Talaban time Afghanistan was Drug free country,
I have a doubt about your femalierity with Afghan nation THEY DONT LIKE ANY FOREIGN OCCUPATION.
If Oboma is smart enough has to quet his mission in the regin, please dont expect any thing more then respectfull withdrawl, otherwise recession will turn into frustration.
According to the sources I’ve read, Masood was killed September 9, 2001, not two weeks before 9/11. His Northern Alliance was thought to be the chief opponent of the Taliban in Afghanistan and he had warned in a speech to the European Parliament that the Taliban had connections with Al-Queda and that there would soon be an important terrorist attack. Al-Queda knew it would be needing sanctuary, so likely “took care of” Masood to ensure their welcome in a Taliban– controlled Afghanistan.
I neither know it all nor have I done it all, but I can read.
A migraine is a certain kind of extremely painful headache, a reason for sympathy for those in Pakistan who long for the same things everyone does– peace, a good life, and a future for their children.
Viola,
Ahmed Shah Masood was anti Taliban. And we can spin all the thories we like why and who killed him there has been no conviction as to who killed him. Most likely Taliban or Al Qaeda.
I appreciate that Pakistan is suffereing from a migrane but unfortunately no end in sight.
There are plenty of people who know exactly who killed him. Surely the Taliban had no interest in convicting whoever planned and carried out his assassination?
No, it is still President Bush problems until 20 January 2009 and then, It is “President Obama, currently–President Elect” problem after that day.
History 101 for everyone
———————————–
1. Former USSR invade Afghanistan in 1979. US create taliban with help from Pakistan and Arabs.
2. USSR leave Afghan leaving behind arms and people with no job and no mean to survive.
3 These Taliban are diverted to Kashmir with help from Pakistan military in 1989 (so called militant beginning)
4. These militant start pushing Islamic thought to people as a mean to survive and flourish.
5. Take over Afghan and start pushing button beyond the border
6. Events like in Africa, US, Europe happens triggering and being labeled as Islamic terrorist.
7. World react.
Ok I am Indian and I respect every peaceful religions.
Peace
English 101
There is a difference between creating the Taliban versus contributing to the factors that allowed the Taliban to gain strength. The Taliban created itself.
Khan Ali, India is not the only one accusing Pakistan of supporting extremists. Pakistan is facing increasing international isolation for a reason. Nato soldiers are not at the Pakistan border to pluck flowers. It is a world known secret to everyone except those in complete denial as to where the terrorists are bred. The US did help you nurture these terrorists for their own end against USSR but turned against you after the snake they bred bit them. If you have differences against India use peaceful methods or if you want to be militant do it against the military or politicians who you think are the cause. Why kill civilians and foreigners who have nothing to do with this. Do you justify the 9/11 attacks or the Marriot hotel blasts in the same way? Interestingly the Lashkar-e-Toiba that stands accused has more Pakistanis than Kashmiris in its ranks. So much for the bread theory.
Pakistan is not supporting any kind of terrorism, infact Pakistan is a victim of this evil. We are facing sucide attaks everyday. We are fighting agaist terrorism. dont forget that pakistan has sacrified a lot more than any country in the world. Is it not a strange thing that Mumbai attack was on its way and Indians were started to blame Pakistan immediately. Islam says that killing of a man is the killing of whole mankind.
Be realistic! The migraine being suffered by the world is US itself.
As for the tragic incidents in Bombay, India need to realize that it has to do some soul searching prior to accusing Pakistan which itself is a victim of terrorism and on top of that is also paying the price of US lead war being fought solely for US interests.
India should realize that it has to first handle its own active insurgencies and issues of minorities including not only the largest Muslim minority but others also. It is the reaction that India is facing for not resolving so many problems of its minorities.
pakistan should put it’s army on the outer limts off it’s city , to stop the bombings. the usa did try to help the afghanistan people .after the ussr was kicked out the us left ,but instead of becoming a nation the war lords started poping up . the taliban telling the people tht they were living wrong cutting off peoples heads keeping their woman inside not letting them learn not even the children . mr. mahood was killed by al-queda because he was against them taliban and al-quda .the war lords as i believe the taliban are now usind dope money to run their war . the us is not in aghanistan too try and take over the country recall how the al-quad were there using there power and caused 911 ….
saba latif
why muslims are the only minorities who cannot live with the majority anywhere in the world. You may accuse indians discriminating muslims, but even in the west muslims are in a mess. In UK , pakistani and bangladeshi children are the worst in their school results, below than average, and forty percent of muslim families have no person working.. they are all living on the dole.. read alms from the white kaffirs they love so much to hate, ( and still will give their hands or legs to land in the west) can you tell us why… muslims are obsessed with religion as if they are the only honest people in this earth.. Uk prison population has 11 percent muslim whereas muslims are 3 percent in population.. there is something wrong somewhere… and may I ask, why in pakistan where there is no kaffirs interference, the education standard is so pathetic…
you have spent sixty years with India hatred, and you see what that has done to you, you are hated everywhere, you need someone to hate for your army to survive…read US ARMED FORCES JOURNAL and google NEW MIDDLE EAST MAP , and you will see what the american plans are..
Do check out the following article titled, “United States, an “International Migraine”"
the link is given below.
http://thepakistaniblog.blogspot.com/2008/12/united-states-international-migraine.html
It is not merly migraine but a cancerous spot in metastasis state which ,needs immidiate surgury otherwise it would be difficult to maintain peace in the world.
As to the question of what can anyone do about Pakistan, I believe very much. The factors that converge to cause Ms. Albright’s migrane, must be removed. Since they are a headache to the entire world, the world must work together on this. For starters, Pakistan’s nuclear weapons must be removed for safe keeping in London or Washington. Another contibuting factor is its proclivity to violence hence the success of the mullah-ISI-military-terrorist nexus, that makes it so entrenched in Pakistani society that it is treated as normal. To deal with this, the military must be weakened by the cessation of funding by the US, followed by arms embargoes, and incessant political pressure from all, not just the West. Secondly, Pakistan must be broken up into smaller and weaker independent states. And lastly, the terrorists must be hunted down and destroyed.
Remember Hitler? He was a migraine too, and no one took him seriously until he crossed over into Sudatenland, and then into Poland. The the gloves came off and Germany was destoyed, so similarly it is time to begin the dismantling Pakistan. Like united Germany, it was born in terror, and it ended in terror.
I really like your blog! You have wrote a really wonderful article on migraine. Thanks they are a great help!
Pakistan isn’t a working nation. Its people haven’t had ANY institution in any shape or form, except army, which violates its own founders constitution when it ruthlessly takes charge of the government of the country. Yes, American’s did use the Pakistani’s to get back at USSR in Afganistan, but then if Pakistani’s didn’t know how to handle these mad lunatics (taliban and LeT) then its their incompitance at doing just about anything right. Can’t manage judicial system, can’t manage education, can’t manage parliament, can’t manage foreign affairs, can’t manage media, can’t manage administration, can’t manage finance and banking, can’t manage country’s image, can’t manage proliferation, can’t manage discrimination, can’t manage more than 40% of its territory. What CAN they manage? Army crushes any democratic govt. in pakistan, as and when it wishes, it runs more than 70% of all businesses in Pakistan. Pakistani citizens have got a rough deal, from their Govt. This is if anything the EXACT o pposite of what Jinnah wanted for citizens of Pakistan. Can’t blame pakistani citizens, for ,they have never had the opportunity to govern themselves. Pakistani army is its own , worst enemy, which needs to be put in the barracks. Till then, world can never assume anything worthwhile to come out of these un accountable, corrupt and morally bankrupt army officials, responsible for the worst genocide in 20th century in Banglades (east pakistan).
