You might have seen some howlers at the movies but check this out for a bad review. The BBC’s Mark Kermode reviewing the new British “comedy” Three And Out. Well worth a listen. But what is the worst film you have ever seen and could you write a better more entertaining review for us? If you do, it might get a play on the World Today this Saturday.

Worst movies, i have see many of them in my lifetime…..

While “Signs”, “Passion of the Christ”, (which is weird because “Mad Max” and “Braveheart” are among the best.) and “K-pax” rank up there with a close number two. The worst movie has to actually be “Bable”. It was a rouse to get all of Hollywood to give critical acclaim to what was essentially a “Japanese school girl porn” movie. Had someone told me it was a soft core porn movie before I watched it, I might have liked it better. But that wasn’t my expectations. Forced storylines that really demonstrate nothing remotely related to the human connections it was trying to portray. This was no “Crash” like it was billed.
I was not a fan of the Russian movie, “Vodka Lemon”. That would certainly be up on my list of my least favorite movies.
How funny, Dwight, I thought Babel was one of the better mainstream-ish movies I’ve seen. Then again I have never seen Passion of the Christ, Braveheart, Mad Max, Signs or K-Pax.
The worst film I’ve ever seen would have to be “Plan 9 from Outer Space”, the 1959 turkey by Ed Wood which I saw in a local theater when it first came out and has since been voted by the International Film Critics Review as “The Worst Movie Ever Made”.
At the time ( I was 8 years old) I just thought it was dumb and had no idea of it’s historical importance.
Write a review of it? That would mean having to watch it again and THAT ain’t gonna happen!
Probably the star trek: undiscovered country movie. it was really bad, and virtually anything can entertain me.
My, possibly, worst movie: The Aristocrats
+ Hating The Aristocrats is a catch-22. People that like the movie couldn’t possibly understand why you don’t. They label you a prude, uptight and conservative. Yet, we are none of those things. The fans of The Aristocrats are people who actually think the joke is shocking and dirty. What the fans don’t realize: if you find the telling of the joke shocking and edgy, or simply like the movie, it means you are utterly boring, uninteresting and vanilla. The “dislikers” are authentic-dirty-shockers.

Wow Scott, you have missed out some. Of those movies, Braveheart is a top 5er. It is quite an American story. “THEY CAN TAKE MY LIFE BUT THEY CAN’T TAKE MY FREEDOM”. Or “You’ve come to fight as free men… and free men you are. What will you do with that freedom? Will you fight?” If after watching that movie you don’t want to take up arms and find some wrong to right, you must have slept through it. “Mad Max” is what will happen if enough of us don’t do that soon.
The rest of Mels movies have been really bad. He is loosing it in the head these days.
It’s a tie between “From Justin to Kelly” and “First Daughter.” I used to get sick a lot so mom would rent whatever movies they had rom the library for me to watch… but i had to turn both of those off. Soooo horrible.
Popeye the Sailor with Robin Williams as Popeye. Absolutely the worst movie of all time including the “My Little Pony” movies my kids used to watch when they where four.
I lasted all of 15 minutes before I walked out. I never did see the rest of it. Less interesting than doing the dishes.
Almost 99% of the Hindi Films are simply too bore to be watched. And about 98% Pakistani Films are too bad to be even mentioned.
In such a draught of entertainment, how an eastern could pin-point a particular movie?
As far as Hollywood movies are concerned about 99% contains too noise and voilance to be watched conveniently…
Had you asked about the Best movie, I would have felt myself more comfortable to figure out a specific movie…
However, I wish this debate could be aired soon, of course after gaining considerable momentum of the responses.
Ha - for me it’s got to be the Brit film ‘Love Actually’ which was truly dire followed, closely by the French film ‘Zidane’ - I sat down with my family to watch what we thought would be an inspiring movie about the footballer’s life. Instead we got this meaningless, pretentious droning about nothing at all - awful
As a sidenote, I’ve just today seen a pretty good film called ‘Persepolis’. I don’t think it bad mouths Iran as some have claimed - the emotional ‘human’ persepective overrides that, in my opinion. In fact, although it didn’t dwell on it, I don’t think the West’s influence over the country was portrayed too well. Anyway, great animation.
I vote for Coyote Ugly. Truly a low point in cinematic history. I have nightmares about being stuck on a long flight with a broken video player repeating this atrocity ad infinitum….
All time worst- night of the comet- San Fernando Valley high school kids, zombies- you get the picture- you find yourself cheering on the zombies!
A close 2nd- Star 80- I’m still haunted by this movie
I’m sad I’ve given up brain space to either one of these movies
“Field of Dreams” was so poorly written, I sat through to the end just to see what kind of ending anyone could possibly write for it. I walked out of “Gorillas in the Mist” about 45 minutes into it. I only lasted 10 minutes in “Big.” There’s one I can’t even recall the name of with Julia Roberts who played the part of a prostitute who has her client fall in love with her. Almost anything with Meryl Streep in it has to be awful. “The Atomic Train” was horrible. I didn’t care for “The French Lieutenant’s Woman” (Meryl Streep again.) I didn’t like “Jurassic Park” at all, I kept rooting for the dinosaurs to eat those little monsters…I’m referring to the children. I would say the only movie made in the last 30 years or so I saw that I liked was “The Red Violin.” My favorites movies are all old…just like me.
We can now add “Shrooms” to that list…
I want my 1.2 hours back. I feel as if I should write the director and everyone else involved and responsible for this mess and request my wasted time back from them. They owe me!
It was a more poorly written and directed version of “The Secret Window” for a druggie generation.
In short, I have wasted 1.2 hours of my life just now. Blockbuster, please take this off of your “new release” list so no one else falls into the same trap I did getting click happy with adding movies to my que.
“Night of The Comet” is a revered classic and possibly the second best zombie movie ever after “Sean of the Dead.” Teenage valley girls are the sole survivors of a flesh destroying virus that kills most of it’s victims and turns the rest into zombies.
Of course their late father taught them Tai Kwon Do and they quickly scoop up some submachine guns. When one girls Mac-10 jams she whines “Daddy would have got us Uzi’s.” Then it’s time to do some no-limit shopping on Rodeo Drive to cheer up.
A few nasty encounters with Zombies and mad scientists and all’s well in the end.
Sixteen candles meets Andromeda Strain. Two thumbs up.
Ayo, I like it…..just like your name…short and to the point. Frankly with Norbit, I don’t even want to go there. The question is has Eddie Murphy ever done a good film? The Nutty Professor being my own personal cinematic pit of despair. Roll the credits please.
The worst film I’ve seen has to be Green Street, the football hooligan film.
What made it so incredibly awful was the geordie gang leader trying to be an eastender and sounding like he was from Ireland, and having a soft-spoken woolly-footed Hobbit in the lead role. Unbelievable and totally awful, despite critical acclaim from people who thought it might be for real.
As a lover of crappy movies, this is a tough one. But the worst movie I have ever seen was….
“Last Days” - it’s a van Zant movie about the last days of Kurt Cobain. So freaking boring in its pseudo-intellectualism. I mean, there is a five minute shot of a DOOR - absolutely no action. By the end of that movie, *I* wanted to OD.
Close second for crappiest movies… “The Village.” Well, and pretty much anything by M. Night Shamalan (sp).
GOOD bad movies: Toxic Avenger, Cannibal the Musical, and Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter. Excellent!
My vote would be Howard the Duck. I saw it at a free screening and wanted my money back!

What is the worst movie you can’t stop watching?- like a bad habit, when flicking through the channels you have to stop and watch, at least for awhile??
Ed Wood’s “Plan 9 From Outer Space” is absolutely the worst feature film of all time. This film is mindnumbing!
Plot (what there is of it): Aliens from space recruit vampires and zombies to take over the Earth. Vampires and zombies attack hero and his companions. Alien plot fails. Hero gets the girl. (None of these plot-points have much logical connection in the execution of the film.)
Featuring:
- Abysmally lame “special effects”, with flubs in almost every shot, including: boom mikes showing in scenes, visible strings holding up the alien spacecraft, scenes with two windows in a room where one window shows a sunlit day, and another window shows darkness - the list goes on and on…
- Stunningly awful script
- Flagrant disregard for continuity
- Gratuitous introductory sequence by 1950’s Holywood psychic “Criswell”.
- Bela Lugosi’s as The Vampire - Lugosi’s last film - he died after only a few minutes of filming (maybe he saw the rushes), and was replaced by a stand-in who didn’t look much like him.
- Vampira (Maila Nurmi, who just recently passed away herself) as Vampira
- Tor Johnson as the Police Inspector Who Becomes a Zombie.
This single film inspired the term “psychotronic”, and the whole critical genre studying artistic works that are worthwhile commenting upon only because they are so very terribly bad.
This film could be used as proof-positive that there is no intelligent life on earth. Not only does “Plan 9 From Outer Space” make one feel embarrassed about having any relationship, no matter how tenuous, with mid-20th century Western culture, it could make you rather ashamed to admit being a carbon-based lifeform.

The worst movies I’ve seen are the Friday the 13th and Halloween movies. They’re just blood and gore.
Any movie describing itself as “ACTION” puts me off.
They’re just blowing things up, senseless violence, and of course plenty of blood.
With people being so concerned about children, one would think they would have done something about the “damaging effects” these movies would have on children, rather than use the amount of money it made as a rating system.
Barbarella!!! What could be worse than Jane Fonda wandering around in a tinfoil jumpsuit blurting “Have you seen Duran Duran?” It was actually worse than it’s spoof film Cannibal Women in the Avacado Jungle of Death.
The worst Sci Fi film ever made was Dark Star. You absolutely have to be stoned to watch this film because the action is just that slow. And the alien is a beachball with claws.
I thought Popeye was a great movie, but must adimt that most of my friends hated it and even walked out. I loved the sound and the acting. I do love Robert Altman’s films generally…
Braveheart truly sucked with its romanticization of all things macho. Jeez. I am so shocked that anyone liked it, but many did.
Two films that I really thought were bad were Nell and Legends of the Fall. Saw both on airplanes. Legends of the Fall was just pure drivel.
My best experience watching a bad film was Kevin Costner’s Robin Hood. Saw it in NY with a like-minded audience that heckled it the whole time.
“Closer.”
Definitly “Closer.”
There was zero character development. There was zero believability in any of the “relationships.” The only interactions you saw were sex and fighting. And you hardly ever knew what the fighting as about; it was all “he said she said” to the viewer, as if the viewer was a third wheel during an awkward moment at a one-guest dinner party thrown by the couple(s).
Just terrible. People who like it say they like it “because it shows how cruel people can be”. That’s the ONLY statement it makes, while it asks a thousand questions it never comes close to answering and never adopts cinematic methods of helping the viewers decide these answers for themselves.
And: Acting = atrocious

N.B. I saw “Closer” in London, and tried tried tried to not be the loud American shouting on the street, tried to be reserved in a polite society…but I totally failed. It was that bad.
If you guys had seen the filming up close and personal like I have then you’d know Amy wins this one hands down. I had about 10 different attempts to get me in that freaking duck suit and not once would I submit! That’s what happens when a one time PA, lowest man on the totem pole production crew, becomes head of ILM in one year because of good old family connections!
